Peer Rope Leuven is a small, peer-based organisation aiming to connect rope-enthusiasts and rope-curious people in and around Leuven.
As organizers, we only see ourselves as having a facilitative role for the community. We provide a space and do the effort of setting up events. We do not see ourselves as having any kind of ‘expert’ role and do not want to be seen as ‘teachers’. It is important to us that our organisation remains community-built and community-driven. The goal is to learn from each other. Therefore, anyone can propose a workshop and the organising team will assist them in making it happen.
We see shibari as a fun activity that can have as many purposes as people practicing it. We would like to welcome them all. Our jams are sex-positive, but we don’t allow sexual activity during workshops.
We promote values of inclusivity, consent, safety and generosity in our events. The following points are shortened versions of our Code of Conduct:
Inclusivity
Our events are intended to be inclusive for everyone. All genders, sexual orientations, social backgrounds, ethnic backgrounds, and body types are welcome here.
We do not tolerate any form of harassment.
If there are any points where somebody feels excluded from our events, we encourage people to contact the event organizers so we can adapt.
Consent
We have a zero-tolerance for intoxication at our events. Not because we are anti-drugs, but because we want to guarantee that everybody at our events is able to tie safely and consent to be tied.
Photos can be taken at our events, but consent of everybody in the photo is necessary. Even if it’s just a toe. Consent also needs to be specific to the use of the photo (private - shown to others - shared through message - shared on Fet - …)
Everyone is free to accept and decline invitations to tie for any reason. Consent can be revoked during a scene.
Ask before you touch someone.
Ask before you touch someone’s stuff.
Safety
If you are unsure if you can do something safely, don’t.
If you do want to try something more risky, we have safety monitors at most events. Inform them of what you are going to do and they will keep an eye out.
If the safety monitors stop you, for any reason, you untie. You can argue with them later.
The team can suspend or ban people they deem unsafe, either for the way they tie or because of consent violations. We will almost always give warnings first and will always explain our decisions.
Generosity
We provide this space and workshop themes because we want to share with the community.
The price of events is kept low and on a sliding scale on purpose. We do not profit from events, and when we do, this money is invested back into our space (in the past we’ve invested in ventilators, mats, bamboo, …) or into extra activities like weekend workshops.
We expect everybody to be open to sharing knowledge, whether it be answering a technical question or giving their own workshops/activity. Booh for gatekeeping!
